Fortunately, this is lot to do in and around Busua. Here you can enjoy Ghana activities what make Ghana a unique country and cultural experience. Within walking distance of town, we have two very distinct, 16th century forts that, unfortunately, were once used to hold slaves until they were transported by ships abroad. Fort Metal Cross, a 15 minute stroll from Busua, was recently renovated and overlooks the village of Dixcove, a large traditional fishing village in the area. Fort Batenstein is a more vigorous 45 minute walk from Busua and sits on a mountain overlooking the small fishing village of Butre. The fort is not as easily visible as it remains surrounding by Ghanaian jungle and is only partially restored. Guides can be arranged from the surf shop to take you to either of the forts.
There are now the opportunity to do some snorkeling in Busua! Abokwa Island, the picturesque island that you see from Busua Beach, is blessed with an abundance of tropical fish on its western reef. Black Star surf has a good selection of high-quality snorkel, masks and fins for rent and can arrange for a boat guided tour to explore Abokwa Island’s undersea beauty. The snorkeling season in Busua is between November and April, when the water is both clear and warm.
New to Busua is Nat’s Bike Rentals. You can now rent a bike and take guided or unguided tours to Fort Metal Cross in Dixcove, Fort Batenstein in Butre, the traditional market in Agona, or just to travel around the back roads of Busua. Nat also offers overnight bike stays going from Busua to Akwaadi along the coast and staying at the Green Turtle Lodge. While in Akwaadi, there are opportunities to do some off-road biking in the rubber tree plantations as well as explore Ghana’s only coastal rain forest. For more information or to arrange a bike rental or trip contact the Black Star Surf Shop.
Another fun and popular Busua activity is kayaking out to Abokwa Island. To arrange for kayaks rentals and to view rental prices go to www.africanrainbowresort.com. Kayaking can also be combined with snorkeling to provide a self-guided tour of Abokwa Island. There are also opportunities to explore the nearby Cape Three Points Rain Forest Reserve, some of the only primary rain forest left on the coast of Ghana. The best way to arrange the completely necessary guided tours is by contacting the Green Turtle Lodge at www.greenturtlelodge.com.

The nightlife in Busua is pretty impromptu, with many places to have a drink and hang out with new or dear friends. There are several places that have music and/or dancing including Abokwa Beach (Reggae, Hiplife and other Ghanaian styles of music), the African Rainbow’s rooftop bar with DJ’s spinning tunes, and the Busua Beach Resort with an occasional live bands on weekends and holidays . The Black Star Surf Shop also has an active night life with dancing and partying during spontaneous and planned dance party events.

Another popular evening event in Busua, especially around holiday and festivals, is to have a bonfire on the beach accompanied by one of the two local drumming and dancing troupes. Come join us and have some fun in Busua!
